Cisco CCNA Cyber Ops Certification – Achieve or Avoid?
If you work in, or want to work in, a security operations center, CCNA Cyber Ops should be high on your list of qualifications to pursue. Few certifications cover this area.
Cybersecurity is one of the most talked about and important topics in the IT industry as companies protect their network, reputation and confidential data of their customers from potential attackers.
To that end, Cisco has designed the CCNA Cyber Ops Certification path to enable Cyber Analysts working within Security Operations Center (SOC) to identify potential threats and stop them in their tracks.
While no system can be 100 percent secure, the ability to distinguish between typical network traffic and potentially malicious malware is key and at the heart of this partner-level certification path,” writes Dave Petts, Cisco Lead Instructor for Firebrand Training.
Designed for security operations centers
CCNA Cyber Ops consists of two modules – SECFND and SECOPS – with two corresponding exams. Both are specifically designed to give you an in-depth understanding of what it’s like to work in a SOC team and what the role of a Level 1 or Level 2 analyst is.
“Cyber Ops Dumps Certification provides a framework for an analyst to gain the necessary skills to monitor cybersecurity threats, know when to provide classification services, and either mitigate a low-level threat or follow an escalation strategy when an advanced threat is detected,” adds Dave.
Why should you achieve the CCNA Cyber Ops?
There are many cybersecurity certifications available on the market today, and choosing the right one for you depends on many different factors. Each certification path has its pros and cons, and ultimately it’s up to you.
CCNA Cyber Ops is from Cisco, the creator of Cisco CCNA Routing and Switching. This legacy gives CCNA Cyber Ops a degree of legitimacy among employers.
If you work within a SOC or want to work in a SOC, CCNA Cyber Ops should be high on your list of qualifications to pursue. This is a narrow field of practice and few certifications cover this area.
Most Cisco courses from authorized Cisco training providers include interactive online labs that provide hands-on experience with the technology.
What’s more, CCNA Cyber Ops covers topics that are not specific to Cisco – making it more useful for teams that do not just use Cisco technologies.
Should you avoid it?
This certification focuses on working within a SOC team. If you’re not doing this full-time, you may not get as much value as other cybersecurity or network certifications.
SOC teams vary from company to company, and while the Cyber Ops Dumps curriculum is broad, it does not cover all topics, techniques, and technologies used in organizations.
“That said, I think anybody considering moving into a Security Operations team and wishing to update their skills set should at least look at this certification path,” says Dave.
CCNA Cyber Ops and the CCNA Routing and Switching
Cisco’s CCNA Routing & Switch certification is recognized by employers worldwide as the essential industry standard in networking.
Cisco is clearly hoping that the CCNA Cyber Ops certification, which is also at the associate level, will have the same impact on companies looking to hire Level 1 or Level 2 cyber professionals in their security operations centers.
Like CCNA Routing and Switching, this cybersecurity certification has no official prerequisites. However, you will benefit from having completed the CCENT certification (for an introduction to Cisco network management) and Security+ (for an entry-level introduction to network security).
